I tried, I failed and an Awesome Cloth Diaper Giveaway!

The other day I was thinking about all of the DIY or craft projects I have tried and failed at.  I always seem to have some new obsession, and it often stems from some desire to be thrifty. I spend oodles of money on "supplies" and get all prepared for my new "hobby." Like that time I tried to make my bridesmaids jewelry boxes as a gift...they were just ugly, so that was a flop. All the cake pans I bought to make my own wedding cake- another flop because my mother was just not going for that idea. Knitting supplies, instructional DVD, learn-to-knit book- so far, not a go (I am thinking of classes maybe?). Making my own soap, various Christmas gifts, the list goes on and on...

When my first baby boy was a few months old, I decided to switch to cloth diapers to save money. In addition to the financial reasons, and the green reasons, and the health reasons, I just like to do some things the old-fashioned way. I can't explain why- I was just obsessed with Little House on the Prarie as a child and I still read way too many historical fiction novels.

Well, when Tuck was about 7 months old, I began a new job and began leaving him more with family members while I was working. Boy, did they gripe about the cloth diapers!  Did I ask them to wash them and hang to dry? No! Did I ask them to use the old white prefolds with diaper pins? No! I used All-in-Ones with velcro or snaps! Fabulous and easy diapers! However, the whining got old after awhile, so I began to gradually switch back to disposables.

Now that little Cash is here and I am a full-time SAHM, we are using cloth diapers pretty much all the time now. So far, I have been using disposables at night time for the extra absorbency and usually when I run errands (for convenience and because I can't stand how big his butt looks in some of his cutest clothes). As he is getting older and I'm becoming more relaxed with the cloth, we are using it more and more. In addition, he got a REALLY bad diaper rash (almost like a chemical burn) from some disposables.

So, I can say that for now...Cloth-Diapering will NOT be one of my latest fads! I am sticking with it! All that money I spent for a fluffy bottom will NOT be added to my list of DIY failures!

(...please don't count the pattern & special order fabrics, PUL, snap pliers & elastics I purchased for my mother-in-law to make me AIOs that I don't like because they aren't absorbent enough or the Chinese Prefolds & Snappis I purchased and the first time I used them said- ummmm. no thanks)

I am a big fan of Bum Genius 3.0. They are the most absorbent AIOs I have discovered- and you can win TWO FREE ONES by checking out my friend Rebekah's contest. She is having an awesome cloth diaper giveaway on her blog, so check it out for a chance to win any two diapers of your choice! http://to-infertility-and-beyond.blogspot.com/2010/05/not-so-crunchy-mama-cloth-diaper.html
