A Real-Life Edward Cullen

Last night, my friend Melissa and I headed out to the midnight premiere of the newest movie in the Twilight Saga, Eclipse. I think we may have been the oldest people there, with the exception of the moms chaperoning their overly-excited tweens.

What is it about this story that so captivates us adults? I think it is because it is the perfect love story that brings up this sense of nostalgia for the days of hand-holding and sweet and simple kisses. The days when we didn't have to make an effort to adore our significant other.

As we were walking to the car after the movie, I asked my friend, "Am I just imagining it, or are all Team Jacob fans under the age of approximately 20?" "Well, that is because they are in love with his body," Melissa said, "and they aren't old enough yet to appreciate all that Edward stands for."

Because my friend is still searching for Mr. Right, I think she has a unique perspective on this while I have become jaded from six years of marriage and two young children.

Edward is the ideal man, isn't he? He is beautiful and strong and he moves in fluid steps. He is intelligent and he drives a cool car. Edward is chivalrous, romantic, and protective. In the book, Bella's mom says to her, "There’s something… strange about the way you two are together. The way he watches you — it’s so… protective. Like he’s about to throw himself in front of a bullet to save you or something."

And in many ways, aren't we girls all a little bit like Bella? We feel awkward and out-of-place, we stumble on our words and our feet. We feel unworthy of someone as perfect as an Edward.

In reflection, I am realizing just how much of a real life Edward Cullen my husband is. He is everything that the strong, chivalrous, traditional man should be. He stands up for me and protects me, he puts my happiness first, he doesn't drink or smoke or swear, and he opens the car door for me and brings me flowers "just because."  yep, he is pretty much perfect. Thank you Twilight Saga for reminding me.

I have found my Real-Life Edward Cullen.
Have you found yours?

Don't you see the resemblance?  : )
